San Gabriel ca has so much to offer, whether you’ve lived in the city your whole life or you are visiting town for a day, there is always something fun to do.  What makes the city so exciting is that they are consistently hosting annual events that your entire family can enjoy.  Families from all over southern california have made the trip to San Gabriel just to enjoy some of it’s events.  I’d love to share with you just a snippet of the annual events in San Gabriel, and I hope you may experience them for yourself one day!

San Gabriel Play Day

San Gabriel Play day is a Spring time annual event hosted in Vincent Lugo Park.  This year it will take place May 16th, from 11am-2pm.  This is a family friendly event and an opportunity for families not only to spend time with each other, but to get to know the other parents in the community.  It’s a special moment where members of the city also get to interact with regular everyday homeowners.  Every year changes, however you can expect free games, booths, and even sometimes free lunch.  If you were looking to sponsor the event as well you can reach out to the city of san gabriel and try to land yoruself a booth spot or donate money.  Either way it’s truly a great opportunity to be able to bond with your community and have a little fun outdoors.  Don’t let all the kids have the fun, there’s plenty to do for adults too!  Dress warm and have fun!

Cinco De Mayo

San Gabriel’s Cinco de Mayo celebration is all about family friendly community bonding.  The event typically includes live bands, cultural entertainment, and a mix of local food vendors serving Mexican favorites. Local organizations and small business also have the opportunity to set up booths to promote their business and support the event.  There are usually activities or attractions for kids, so the event also tends to include families from all over the SGV.  Overall it’s an extremely casual event where members of the community get to celebrate the importance of Cinco De Mayo as well as enjoy the culture.

Dumplings & Beer Festival

The dumplings & Beer festival is exactly what it sounds like. It is an open tasing event where you get to walk around and try different types of dumplings, as well as locally brewed beer from regional breweries.  Food vendors usually offer a wide range of dumplings from pork, chicken, veggie, soup dumplings, to creative fusion options.  Everything is made fresh or cooked to order.  Beer vendors tend to pour small glasses so that you get to enjoy a variety of different brews. There is typically live music or a DJ, picnic-style seating, and altogether just a very casual place to mingle with others in your community. It’s all about getting an opportunity to try different varieties of dumplings and beer that most people might not have known about.  Since it is extremely food focused, the event tends to attract foodies from all over San Gabriel Valley & is just a great time to spend a night out!

Lunar New Year Festival

The Lunar New Year Festival in San Gabriel is a celebration centered around cultural traditions, performances, and community gathering. Attendees can expect lion and dragon dances, live stage performances, and cultural demonstrations throughout the day. Vendor booths are stacked with traditional foods, snacks, and local businesses.  The event area is littered with chinese themed decor, & red lanterns symbolizing luck for the new year.  There are also activities for kids as well. The festival is energetic and the perfect place to spend some quality time with friends, family, or to mingle with others.

Turkey Trot

The San Gabriel Turkey Trot usually starts with a fun 5K (and usually a kids’ race) that winds through local streets. Runners, walkers, families, and even people in turkey costumes show up early, grab their bibs, stretch out, and line up together at the start. Along the route, you’ll see neighbors cheering, volunteers directing runners, and a tons of support from your community. The race is designed to be centered around community rather than it is about being competitive.  After the race, participants typically hang around for post-run snacks, photos, and time to cool down. It’s a feel-good, tradition-style event that brings the community together to kick off the holiday on an active, positive note.

Christmas Tree Lighting

The San Gabriel Tree Lighting is one of the longest standing traditions in San Gabriel’s annual events.  The event includes a live choir, free samples from the Blossom Market Hall, and a visit from Santa Claus!  Instead of a sleigh he rides the SG firetruck!  San Gabriel spares no details to make this the most magical night for children and families alike, often having a fake snow machine & tons of activities to do.  Without a doubt, this is one of the best events to spend an evening out with your family.

Most of them are free entry, however that may not always be the case.  Look at the information of the event either on their website or instagram before going, they will specify whether or not there is paid entry.
